In addition to directly supporting clients the Northern Ireland Police Fund also provides assistance through the funding of activities undertaken by other bodies either at the Fund’s request or which are of benefit to our clients. These include:
RUC Benevolent Fund
Travel to Harrogate and Auchterarder convalescent homes
The Fund covered the travel costs of injured ex-officers, together with their spouses, to the Convalescent homes of Harrogate and Auchterarder including costs associated with the administration of the scheme. The Fund continues to be grateful to the RUC Benevolent Fund whom the Fund relies upon to organising trips to convalescent homes.
Maintenance of apartments
The apartments owned by the RUC Benevolent Fund are used extensively by widows and disabled ex officers. The fund contributes to the maintenance of the apartments on a pro rata basis.
Welfare Group expenses
The Northern Ireland Police Fund supports the work undertaken by police local voluntary welfare groups who in turn provide support to Fund clients.
Retired Police Officers Association
Home Visitors scheme
This very successful new scheme is a joint venture between the NI Police Fund and the Retired Police Officers Association. Retired police officers undertake regular visits to our clients to provide information on our schemes and assistance with applications. The visitors also undertake post-application evaluation and feedback on NIPF process
Befriending scheme
The Northern Ireland Police Fund continues to support this outreach scheme organised by the Retired Police Officers Association. It continues to provide support to ex officers and their families who have been injured as a result of terrorist violence.
The RUC GC Widows’ Association
The Northern Ireland Police Fund continues to provide support for our clients who are members of the RUC GC Widows Association through an annual grant to the Association.
The RUC GC Parents Association
The Northern Ireland Police Fund continues to support the RUC GC Parents Association and its regular meetings, events and activities.
Forgotten Families
The Police Fund provides support to Forgotten Families through a contribution towards the costs of the varous meetings of its members.
Police Rehabilitation and Retraining Trust
As mentioned elsewhere the Fund operates in partnership with PRRT in the provision of a gateway service for psychological support. In addition PRRT provide child and adolescent psychology services part funded by the Northern Ireland Police Fund.
Police Dependants Trust
The Northern Ireland Police Fund maintains close liaison with the Police Dependants Trust. Where appropriate the Fund and Trust have jointly funded works for our clients.
Disabled Police Officers Association
The Northern Ireland Police Fund continues to provide financial support to the Disabled Police Officers Association in support of their members eligible for support from the Northern Ireland Police Fund.
Carers Association
The Northern Ireland Police Fund provides financial support for the activities of the Carers Association set up to recognise the role of the carers of police officers seriously injuted as a result of terrorist activity.
